Mindfulness and yoga-based interventions are an evidence-based approach to healing through rebuilding a sense of connection to the self; joining your thinking, body and breath. Yoga has been used for thousands of years to calm the body (autonomic sympathetic activation, muscle tension and blood pressure) and the mind (scary thinking, inner critic and racing thoughts).
This course will arm you with the knowledge and skills to better know how trauma affects you in the present and how to manage the emotions and sensations day-to-day.
By bringing purposeful attention to the physical body and focused breathing, our course will allow you to have greater control; rather than the stories of the mind dictating how you feel. This will give you a greater tolerance for emotional states and bodily sensations within a safe environment, reducing self-judgment, promoting self-worth and leading you to more authentic, healthy relationships with yourself and those around you.
Trauma sensitive yoga and mindfulness-based exercises are best practice approaches designed for people with complex trauma backgrounds, anxiety, depression, chronic pain and fatigue
During the group you can expect to gain information on trauma, body and mindfulness. You will learn practical mindfulness, breathing, meditation and yoga-based exercises that can be used daily for self-care and grounding. The purposes of these exercises are to experience the present moment, increase self-awareness, spatial orientation, feel empowered to make choices and take effective action. During the group you are free to make choices about which exercises you are comfortable trying. All the exercises are simple and you don’t need any previous experience. If you are willing to practice, the beneficial effects of these skills could be limitless. This group can guide you but for the best outcomes, you will need to commit to practice.
What you will experience:
· Increased ability to self-regulate and stabilise irrational behaviour
· Change your relationship with the trauma(s) of the past
· Decrease stress
· Improved sleep
· Increased connection to physical body
· Find out what it is that you love
· Reconnect with forgotten parts of yourself
· Self-care and self-worth
· Tools for living mindfully
· Increase comfort in daily life
This group is ideal for individuals who have an established relationship with a psychiatrist or therapist and who attend regular therapy.
The group will consist of 10 or fewer individuals and it is important that participants attend all 6 sessions.
